The Mistake
Written by K.L. Slater, 2017
This book is a thriller with one main thought-provoking twist. It takes place in Nottinghamshire, UK in a small village where everyone knows everybody and all their business. Rose a young adult going to college loves books and art. She volunteers her time at the local library. She was raised in Nottinghamshire where they have a coal mine that her dad and all the local men work at. She has an 8-year-old brother named Billy. The wonderful part of the book is you believe one thing and then Wham it has twisted entirely into something else. Rose meets Gareth Farnham when she is 18 years old. She is young and impressionable. This is her first boyfriend, so she has little experience. Gareth seems like a nice guy, but you slowly see a different personality coming into view.
I love how engaged I was in this book. I liked the tension and the building of the plot. The characters were easy to like and dislike at times. You felt that little noise in the back of your mind that says NOOOOO don’t fall for that. It also makes you wonder how you were at the age of 18 and what thoughts and actions you did when you just didn’t know any better and you didn’t know about the world. The book is about a mystery involving the disappearance of Rose’s younger brother Billy. The good part about the book is it doesn’t give a lot of details about the disappearance so it doesn’t mess with you emotionally. I hope you enjoy this book; I know I did.
